Prior to forming Hay Property Group in 1996 Peter was a Director of Brendan Rice Pty Ltd. Valuers for 10 years. Peter qualified as a valuer in 1982 and over 35 years gained extensive experience in valuing all types of properties including commercial, industrial, rural, residential, businesses and specialist type properties throughout Melbourne and rural Victoria. Through mentoring and coaching, Peter passed his extensive experience in valuing suburban and country hotels and motels, caravan parks, multi-unit developments and medium density sites suited for redevelopment to the Hay Property Group Team.
Peter expanded Hay Property Group to provide valuation services for mortgage purposes, litigation, rental determinations, insurance, pre-purchase and sale advice. Hay Property has completed many specialised rural valuations ranging from large size grazing properties, dairies, orchards, cool stores and cropping properties through to horse studs, equestrian centres and hobby farms, compensation and government acquisitions. Between 1980 and 1988 Peter completed many rural valuations for the Princes Freeway Duplication between Berwick and Traralgon for Vic Roads and for the duplication of the South Gippsland Highway from Cranbourne to Lang Lang valuing over 60 rural properties.
Hay Property under Peter’s leadership completed over 200 powerline easement acquisitions in Victoria between Portland and the South Australian Border. More recently, Hay Property has completed over 60 rural valuations in Bendigo, 19 at Stanhope and Kyabram, 52 in Cobden, 18 at Camperdown, 9 at Telangatuk, all for Powercor Victoria for power transmission line easements. In addition Hay Property has performed over 40 pipeline easement valuations in Harcourt and Greater Bendigo and pipeline easement valuations also in Drouin, Traralgon, Glenmaggie, Willowgrove, Sale, Maffra and interstate N.S.W.
Peter developed specialised expertise in Hay Property through valuations of
- Rural and orchard properties in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley,
- Dairy and cattle grazing properties in the Yarra Valley and Gippsland,
- Sheep/wool grazing properties throughout the Western District,
- High Country cattle grazing properties from Cobungra to Omeo and Swifts Creek in East Gippsland.
- Vineyards in the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and the Strathbogie Ranges,
- Horse Studs and Agistment properties in Seymour, Berwick, Beaconsfield and throughout the Mornington Peninsula.
Peter generously shared his knowledge and experience as an External Studies Teacher and part-time lecturer in valuations at the Frankston College of TAFE and Dandenong, Outer Eastern and Northern Metropolitan Colleges of TAFE, together with over 8 TAFE Colleges throughout country Victoria.
Peter was regularly interviewed by the Age and Herald Sun, B.R.W., The Financial Review, Money and the Australian Property Investor on a broad range of valuation and property risk management issues, and provided guest speaking services to various banks on current property values and market trends.
